Pugs are a powerful, sardonic band from Japan, with a particularly warped sense of humor, great melodies and a lyricist/front woman named Honey*K who performs kind of like Patti Smith crossed with Bjork and at least one B-52.

Pugs stage antics are spellbinding: raucous and erotic. Honey*K reaches back to her Japanese blues diva past and redefines the future of glam, alternative rock, punk and a few other genres. As her voice moves from impassioned whispers to wailing screams, the band matches her moods, creating a thick atmosphere of musical overdrive that leaves the crowd dazed and eager for more.

"Pugs Bite the Red Knee" is a pop compilation of the band's four Japanese albums: the eponymous "Pugs", "Bambie Boo!", "Sports", and "Feeling Adult". These songs are fan favorites, from the demented originals "Spock On (Miss Gloria)", "Divine", "I Am Einstein"and "Mari in Love", to their twisted takes on "Tequila" and "Popcorn".

Honey*K's lyrics are meditations on the difficulties and delights of love, carnal and spiritual. Honey has her own quirky take on the vagaries of modern love relationships, Tokyo style: you can access her "Advice to the Lovelorn" at: 212-645-9018 . The CD's Klasky-Csupo designed comic art cards add a Hungarian/Japanese taste to the album: fans can expect more multimedia melding in the future.

Keyboardist/violinist/bandleader Hoppy Kamiyama is equally well-known to the avant-garde music scenes in Tokyo, NY and Seattle. He has been band mates, and performed with, such luminaries as: John Zorn, Marc Ribot, Yamatsuka Eye, and George Clinton. Hoppy's independent label, God Mountain, released the first three Pugs records in Japan, as well as a host of international underground artists.

Guitarist Hikaru Yoshida adds his glistening screech to the Pugs: he founded (and just disbanded) Japanese rock band "Der Zibet". He plays a major role in creating the bands one-of-a-kind style: a touch of metal and punk, with a generous helping of melodic noise.

Space bass player Hajime Okano is one of the band's two bassists (the earth-based bass player position is a fluid one). His popping, guitar-styled bass soars and loops through the earth-bound bass lines of the second bassist (who will remain nameless for now since this position is a fluid one). Hajime is one of Tokyo's busiest girl-idol producers.

Steve Eto, the band's roving metal percussionist, is one of Japan's most sought-after session musicians. His specialty is in diligently searching the junkyards near upcoming performance sites, dragging back metal automotive parts and other machinery and, dancing wildly, destroying them on stage with his arsenal of chain saws, to the beat of the music.

The band's new root-bassist and reggae lover is Joe Yabuki. His name is synonymous with that old famous Japanese animation character called "Ashita no Joe" (Tomorrow's Joe)

Drummer Roger is the band's funky foundation. He has found his natural place in Pugs, anchoring the band through their flights of fantasy live and on record.
